AUGUSTA, Ga. (Women's Basketball) – The Paine College women's basketball fought hard but could not overcome the Albany State University Lady Rams on Saturday, 76-51.
With the loss, the Lady Lions drop to 5-12 overall and 3-6 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. Albany State moves to 7-9 overall, and 6-3 in league play.
Brianna Sims and
Janisha Wilkerson led the Lions with 15 points each. Wilkerson was the leading blocker for Paine with three. The leading rebounder for the Lady Lions was
Tannasia Rhodes with 10 for the game. Rhodes also led the team in assists with nine.
Jemetria Fletcher had the fastest hands for the night with three steals.
As a team, the Lady Lions finished the game with 39 rebounds, 12 assists, 10 steals, and six rebounds. Paine was 29 percent from the field, 11.1 percent from the arc, and 50 percent from the free throw line.
Artisha Holston led the Lady Rams with a double double of 13 points and 11 boards for the game. Ieshia Young followed her with 12 points. Mecca Frost and Kayla Green accounted for 10 points apiece. Young led Albany State with four assists. Frost, Green, and Zuri Frost each attributed two steals to the Lady Rams. Holston and Shanice Williams each had a block for the night.
Albany State finished the night with 38 rebounds, 13 assists, 10 steals, and two blocks. As a team, the Lady Rams were 47 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from the arc, and 52.4 percent from the free throw line.
Paine will go on the road Monday, Jan. 26 to face Clark Atlanta at 5:30 p.m.
