ATLANTA, Ga. (Women's Basketball) – Coach
Willie Adams and the Paine College Lady Lions took the court on Monday with one thing on their mind, to win. The Lady Lions went into Epps Gymnasium and dominated Clark Atlanta University, 81-68. Paine led the way in scoring for the entire game.
With the win, the Lady Lions move to 6-12 overall and 4-6 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. The Lady Panthers even out at 8-8 overall and drop to 4-5 in league play.
The leading scorer for Paine was standout
Janisha Wilkerson who accumulated 22 points for the night.
Jemetria Fletcher followed Wilkerson and earned a double double of 21 points and 13 rebounds. Wilkerson was second in rebounding with nine.
Lasharon Salahuddin kept the table set for her teammates with four assists. Salahuddin, Wilkerson,
Brianna Sims,
Tannasia Rhodes, and
Aalyiha Wright each finished the game with two assists.
As a team, the Lady Lions finished the night with 58 rebounds, 11 assists, and 11 steals. The team was 38.7 percent from the field, 14.3 percent from the arc, and 81.5 percent from free throw line.
Siera Bubb led the way for the Lady Panthers with a double double performance of 19 points and 10 rebounds. Mykala Jones and Denissea Law followed her with 13 points. Law led the team in assists with six. Bubb and Brandie Robertson each had a block for the night. Robertson led the team in steals with six.
Clark Atlanta finished the night with 40 rebounds, 19 assists, 17 steals, and two blocks. The team was 36.2 percent from field, 16.7 percent from the arc, and 69.6 percent from free throw line.
The Lady Lions will be competing again on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 1 p.m. against Benedict College in Columbia, S.C.
