AUGUSTA,Ga. (Women's Basketball)—The Paine College Lady Lions opened the conference half of their schedule at home with a loss to Spring Hill College on Saturday afternoon, 67-56.
The loss moves Paine to 2-7 overall, and 0-1 in conference. The Badgers are 5-5 overall and 1-0 in league play.
Junior guard,
Kiandra Guilford led the team with 14 points. She was followed by
Lashonda Canty with 12 and Delisia Sharpe with 10. Canty also led the team in total rebounds with seven for the afternoon.
Lasharon Salahuddin had the fastest hands for the Lady Lions as she came up with five steals. Paine had a great presence in the middle as
Brianna Simms shined with three blocks.
Tannasia Rhodes kept the table set for the Lady Lions as she led the team with four assists.
As a team, Paine finished the day with 25 rebounds, 12 assists, 15 steals, and eight blocks. Paine was 66.7 percent from the free throw line and 29.7 percent from the field.
Elissa VandeWaa was the leading scorer for the Badgers with 15 points. She was followed by Jennifer Clark with 10. Raniesha Andrews led the team with five assists. Jewel Hill, Brittany Davis and Leah Washington each had one block. Camry Johnson came away with two steals. Alishia Drayton led Spring Hill with 11 total rebounds while Johnson and Amber Lane each had nine.
As a team, the Badgers finished the game with 55 rebounds, 10 assists, three blocks, and nine steals. Spring Hill was 75 percent from the free throw line and 45.1 percent from the field.
The Lady Lions will return to action on Jan. 5 at 5:30 p.m. as they welcome Miles College to the HEAL Complex.
