AUGUSTA, Ga. (Women's Basketball) – The Paine College Lady Lions clawed the way to victory over Miles College on Monday evening, 79-71.
With the victory, Paine moves to 3-7 overall and 1-1 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Lady Golden Bears fall to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in league play.
Lashonda Canty showed her scoring prowess by leading the Lady Lions with double-double, a team-high 22 points and 11 rebounds.
Jemetria Fletcher and
Kiandra Guilford both finished the night with 12 points.
Tannasia Rhodes and
Aalyiha Wright tied for third in scoring with 10 points. Rhodes was second in rebounds with nine. Wright and
Lasharon Salahuddin each finished the night with two steals. Delisia Sharpe had a strong presence in the middle for Paine as she accounted for three blocks.
As a team, the Lady Lions finished the night with 41 total rebounds, 11 assists, five blocks, and nine steals. Paine was 48.3 percent from the field and 81.5 percent from the free throw line.
Porshia Blue was a stellar for Miles as she had a game-high 26 points, a team-high eight rebounds, and four assists. Ebony Mcneill came in second in scoring and rebounds with nine points and five rebounds. Blue and Wendy Miller each accounted for one block.
The Golden Lions finished the game with 25 rebounds, 12 assists, 14 steals, and two blocks. As a team, Miles was 43.1 percent from the field and 68.4 percent from the free throw line.
The Lady Lions will be on the road on Thursday, Jan. 8 as they travel to face Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Ala. at 5:30 p.m.
