AUGUSTA, Ga. (Women's Volleyball) – The Paine College Lady Lions volleyball team faced off against the newly named Augusta University Lady Jaguars on Saturday evening. Paine fought hard but could not overcome the deficit and lost the match in three sets. The set scores were 25-15, 25-11, and 25-10.
With the loss, Paine drops to 11-13 for the season with Augusta University moves to 14-9.
Rachel Windle led the way for the Lady Jaguars with 14 kills. She was followed by Kali Boatwright with 12. Sadie Thirston kept Augusta University in the game with 38 assists. The defensive leaders for the team were Cat DeSilvester with seven digs and Boatwright with six. Blair Bolton recorded a solo block the Lady Jaguars.
Collectively, the team finished the evening with 49 kills, 44 assists, 30 digs, six service aces, and three total team blocks.
The Lady Lions were led by
Tiera Daugherty with seven kills and
Kayla Lewis with four. Lewis also led the team in assists with seven. She was followed by
Totyanna Corbitt with six. Defensively,
Kayla Josey finished the match with five digs. Corbitt also recorded Paine's only service aces for the match.
As a team, Paine finished the match with 18 kills, 15 assists, 19 digs, one service ace, and one total team block.
The Lady Lions return to action on Monday, Oct. 26 as the team hosts Fort Valley State University in the HEAL Complex at 7 p.m.
