FORT VALLEY, Ga. (Women's Volleyball) –The Paine College Lady Lions volleyball team stormed into Fort Valley State University on Friday night and defeated the Lady Wildcats, 3-0. The set scores were 25-18, 25-16, and 25-14.
With the win, Paine improves to 10-6 overall and 5-4 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. Fort Valley drops to 2-10, overall, and 1-10 in league play.
The Lady Wildcats were led by Maya Stewart with six kills and Ayauna Ellis with five. Challace Denson kept the table set for Fort Valley with 16 assists. Defensively,
Raymee Johnson finished the night with eight digs and Stewart with six. Denson, Ellis, and Candace Pittman each accounted for a solo block.
As a team, the Lady Wildcats finished the match with 22 kills, 25 digs, 19 assists, three team blocks, and two service aces.
Tiera Daugherty led Paine with seven kills and a solo block. She was followed by
Caprice Lockett with five kills.
Kayla Lewis proved to be the best setter with 14 assists. Defensively, the Lady Lions were led by
Kayla Josey with 10 digs. Josey also accounted for a team-high three service aces.
Collectively, Paine finished the night with 29 kills, 26 digs, 25 assists, 10 service aces, and two team blocks.
The Lady Lions return to action on Monday as they travel to Orangeburg, S.C. to face Claflin University.
