LAKELAND, Fla. (Women's Basketball) – The Paine College Lady Lions took the court against Saint Leo University in their last game of the Sunshine State Conference / Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Challenge on Saturday afternoon in Lakeland, Fla. The Lady Lions fought hard but were unable to overcome the Saint Leo and were defeated, 81-58.
It was a great day for Paine's centers as
Janisha Wilkerson and
Delisia Sharpe led the team in points and rebounds. Wilkerson finished the game with 14 points while Sharpe recorded 12 boards.
Ashley Watts kept the table for the Lady Lions with seven assists.
Mikalia Wallace accounted for the lone block of the game.
Collectively, Paine finished the game with 37 rebounds, 16 assists, 10 steals, and one block. The team was 37.7 percent from the field, 5.9 percent from three point range, and 68.8 percent from the free throw line.
Saint Leo was led by Chachi Guzman with 25 points and seven assists. She was followed by Chelsy Springs with 19 points and Mary Redmond with 14. Springs also led the team in rebounds with 15 boards.
As a team, the Lions finished the game 49 rebounds, 21 assists, 12 steals, and two blocks. Saint Leo was 43.7 percent from the field, 40 percent from the arc, and 52.9 percent from the free throw line.
The Lady Lions next game will be on Monday, November, 16th at 6 p.m. as they travel to Charleston, S.C. to face Charleston Southern University.
