AIKEN, S.C. (Men's basketball) – Coach
Chase Campbell and the Paine College men's basketball team headed to Aiken, S.C. to face off against the Pacers of the University of South Carolina – Aiken on Wednesday night. The Lions fought valiantly but were defeated by the Pacers, 97-84.
Paine drops to 0-3 to start their season while USC-Aiken moves to 1-2.
Denzel Dillingham put on his third double digit performance with 30 points. This is his second game with 30 points. He was followed by
Arnis Libazs and
Kaderious Compton with 14 points each. Donald Quarles put in some work on the boards for Paine with eight rebounds. Libazs had the second most rebounds with six.
The Lions finished the game with 31 rebounds, nine assists, and four steals. The team was 43.5 percent from the field, 48.4 percent from the arc, and 71.4 percent from the free throw line.
The Pacers were led by Keith Belfield with 31 points and Jevon Patton with 25 points and a team-high seven assists. Arbry Butler recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Butler also accounted for three blocks.
Collectively, USC-Aiken finished the night with 28 rebounds, 13 assists, four blocks, and four steals. The team was 65.4 percent from the field, 45.5 percent from three point range, and 82.6 percent from the free throw line.
The Lion travel across town to face Augusta University on Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m.
