BRUNSWICK, Ga. (Women's basketball) -- The Paine College Lady Lions traveled to Brunswick, Ga. to play the College of Coastal Georgia on Saturday afternoon and were able to pick their first win of the 2015-16 season, 83-76.
With the win, Paine moves to 1-5 for the season while Coastal Ga. drops to 3-5.
The Lady Lions were led by
Ashley Watts with 28 points and
Janisha Wilkerson with 24 points. Wilkerson and
Delisia Sharpe put in work on the boards for Paine tonight with seven rebounds apiece. Watts was the assists leader for the game with five. Sharpe recorded two blocks for the Lady Lions.
Collectively, Paine finished the game with 45 rebounds, 11 assists, six steals, and two blocks. The team was 47.8 percent from the field, 23.1 percent from the arc, and 72.7 percent from the free throw line.
Janne Tullis led the Mariners with 25 points. She was followed by Anissa Toumi with 17 points and Ashanti Groover with 13 points. The leading rebounder for Coastal Georgia was Toumi with eight boards. Gabby O'Sullivan was the most generous Mariner of the night with eight assists. O'Sullivan also had a nose for the ball by coming up with four steals.
As a team, Coastal Georgia finished the night with 35 rebounds, 18 assists, eight steals, and five blocks. The Mariners were 41. 8 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from three point range, and 60.9 percent from the free throw line.
The Lady Lions will return to action on Dec. 3 at 5:30 p.m. as they travel to Frankfort, Ky. to face Kentucky State in their conference match up.
