Salisbury, N.C. (Women's Basketball) – The Paine College Lady Lions basketball team travelled to face the Livingstone College Lady Blue Bears on Monday. The Paine women lost the game, in spite of a well-mounted comeback, and were defeated by Livingstone, 80-74.
With the loss, Paine drops to 2-5, overall, and the Lady Blue Bears moves to 3-3.
The Lady Lions were led by
Aalyiha Wright with 18 points and
Janisha Wilkerson with 17 points.
Kiandra Guilford and
Ashley Watts kept the table set for Paine with four assists each. Wright and
Delisia Sharpe were a presence in the paint as they recorded nine rebounds apiece.
Tierra Boykin had a nose for the ball as she came up with six steals.
Collectively, Paine finished the game with 47 rebounds, 15 steals, and 12 assists. The team was 40.5 percent from the field, and 63.6 percent from the free throw line.
Kyala Searcy was the point leader for Livingstone with 23 points. Searcy was followed by Amber Curtis with a double – double of 17 points and 11 assists. The leading rebounders were Curtis and Toxiana Wilson with eight boards each. Curtis also accounted for two blocks.
As a team, the Lady Blue Bears finished the night with 44 rebounds, 16 assists, 14 steals, and three blocks. The team was 47.6 percent from the field, 25 percent from three point range, and 56.3 percent from the stripe.
The Lady Lions return to action against Eckerd College as they host the Lady Tritons in the HEAL Complex on Dec. 19 at 2 p.m.
