AUGUSTA, Ga. (Women's Basketball) – The Paine College women's basketball team played host to the Eckerd College Lady Tritons on Saturday. The Lady Lions weren't able to overcome the onslaught of Eckerd and were defeated, 81-57.
With the victory, Paine moves to 2-6, overall, and the Blue Bears drop to 7-3.
The Lady Lions were led by
Ashley Watts with 14 points. Watts was followed by
Tierra Boykin with 10 points and two steals.
Chasity Mullins recorded a team high nine rebounds. Watts was the initiator for Paine's offense with five assists. Mullins and
Janisha Wilkerson accounted for one block each.
Collectively, Paine finished the game with 32 rebounds, 11 assists, six steals, and two blocks. The team was 33.3 percent from the field, 26.7 percent from the arc and 76.5 percent from the free throw line.
Ashley Folsom was the leader for Eckerd with 23 points and seven rebounds. Folsom was followed by Margaret Sundberg with 14 points and Chelsea Johnson with 11 points. The assist leaders for the Lady Tritons were Sundberg and Kacie Juday with five assists each. Sarah Ammons accounted for one blocks.
As a team, Eckerd finished the night with 34 rebounds, 21 assists, six steals, and one blocks. The team was 48.3 percent from the field, 45.5 percent from three point range, and 56.5 percent from the stripe.
The Lady Lions return to action against Livingstone College as they host the Lady Blue Bears on Dec. 30 at 7 p.m.
