AUGUSTA, Ga. (Women's Basketball) – The Paine College Lady Lions basketball team hosted the Livingstone College Lady Blue Bears on Wednesday. The Lady Lions held off Livingstone and were able to come up with a 71-67 victory at home.
With the victory, Paine moves to 3-6, overall, and the Lady Blue Bears drop to 5-4.
The Lady Lions were led by
Ashley Watts with 26 points. Watts was followed by
Janisha Wilkerson with a quiet double – double of 21 points and 15 rebounds.
Delisia Sharpe was second in rebounds with 13 boards. Watts kept the table set for Paine's offense with eight assists. Sharpe accounted for four blocks. Watts and
Aalyiha Wright each recorded for two steals each.
Collectively, Paine finished the game with 50 rebounds, 15 assists, eight steals, and seven blocks. The team was 34.9 percent from the field, 41.7 percent from the arc and 68.8 percent from the free throw line.
Zena Lovette was the leader for Livingstone with 15 points and six steals. Lovette was followed by Brittany Taylor with 14 points, and Toxiana Wilson with 13 points. Amber Curtis recorded a double – double of 12 points and 13 rebounds. The assist leader for the Lady Blue Bears was Taylor with seven assists. Wende Foster accounted for six blocks.
As a team, Livingstone finished the night with 45 rebounds, 13 steals, 12 assists, and seven blocks. The team was 35 percent from the field, 18.8 percent from three point range, and 53.3 percent from the stripe.
The Lady Lions return to action against Stillman College as they host the Lady Tigers in the HEAL Complex on Jan. 2 at 1 p.m.
