JACKSON, Tenn. (Women's Basketball) – The Paine College women ended their three game road trip against Lane College on a high note. The Lions defeated the Lady Dragons, 82-66.
With the win, Paine improves to 2-4, overall, and 1-2 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. Lane moves to 0-8, overall, and 0-2 in conference play.
The Lady Lions were led by
Ashley Watts with 33 points and
Janisha Wilkerson with 22 points. Watts kept the table set for Paine with five assists.
Delisia Sharpe was a presence in the paint as she recorded 10 rebounds.
Mikalia Wallace showed her defensive prowess with three blocks.
Tierra Boykin and Watts each recorded three steals.
Collectively, Paine finished the game with 35 rebounds, 11 steals, nine assists, and six blocks. The team was 47.1 percent from the field, 35.7 percent from the arc, and 56.5 percent from the free throw line.
Tashara Jones was the point leader for the Lady Dragons with 16. Jones was followed by Niya Royal with 11 points and Kyana Jackson with 10 points. The leading rebounder was Shadarian Beasley with 10 boards. Johnson and Royal recorded three assists each. Deizarae McCoy had the only block for Lane.
As a team, the Lady Dragons finished the night with 38 rebounds, 10 assists, seven steals, and one block. The team was 38.7 percent from the field, 26.7 percent from three point range, and 56 percent from the stripe.
The Lady Lions return to action against Livingstone College on Dec. 14 at 5 p.m. as they travel to Salisbury, N.C.
