ALBANY, Ga. (Women's basketball) – Coach
Willie Adams and the Paine College Lady Lions basketball team were defeated by Albany State on Monday as they were in search of their third victory, 61-53.
With the loss, Paine drops to 8-14, overall and 6-8 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. Albany State moves to 12-9, overall and 11-3 in league play.
Tannasia Rhodes led the Lady Lions with 14 points and six steals. She was followed by
Jemetria Fletcher with 11 points and three blocks. Rhodes and Fletcher each accounted for three assists.
Janisha Wilkerson and Rhodes both finished the night with eight rebounds.
As a team, Paine finished the game with 42 rebounds, 13 steals, 12 assists, and six blocks. The team was 32.8 percent from the field, 30 percent from the arc, and 42.9 percent from the free throw line.
The Lady Rams were led by Ieshia Young and Jillian Anderson with 12 points. Artisha Holston led the team in blocks with two and in rebounds with nine. Mecca Frost led Albany State in assists with five and in steals with three.
As a whole, the Lady Rams finished the night with 44 rebounds, 13 assists, 11 steals, and five blocks. The team was 33.9 percent from the field, 25 percent from the arc, and 71 percent from the free throw line.
Paine returns to action on Thursday as they face Clark Atlanta University on Scholar-Athlete Night in the HEAL Complex at 5:30 p.m.
