AUGUSTA, Ga. (Women's basketball) – With :13 left in the second half and the score tied at 74-74, Lasharon Salauddin and Janisha Wilkerson raced up court. Wilkerson was able to pass the ball to Salahuddin in just enough time for her to score a layup as time expired, 76-74.
 
The Paine College women's basketball team held on to defeat, Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent, Clark Atlanta in a mid week tilt in the HEAL Complex on Thursday.
 
The game was a nail biter to say the least as the Lady Lions trailed most of the game. In the first half of play, Paine and the Lady Lions traded baskets until Wilkerson went to the free throw line with :32 left and made both shots, 35-32.
 
Clark Atlanta came out during the second half and tied the game with 15:54 left as Siera Bubb was fouled by Delisia Sharpe and made both free throws, 39-39. Paine fell behind at the 15:26 mark in the second half when Denissea Law made a layup, 41-39. The Lady Lions tied the game again when Lashonda Canty made a turnaround jumper with 12:05 left in the second half, 45-45. CAU answered back with a jumper from Bubb at the 11:51 mark in the second half, 47-45.
 
The Lions played from behind for the rest of the second half until the :18 mark. Salahuddin was fouled after stealing the ball and made both of her free throws to tie the score and take the lead, 74-73.
 
The Lady Panthers had one last chance to win the game when BreAsia Burns fouled Brandie Roberston with :13 left in the second half. Robertson missed the first and made the second, 74-74. Wilkerson was able to get the inbound pass, run the floor and pass the ball for Salahuddin to score the winning basket.
 
Salahuddin only accounted for four points on the night but the points were scored at very crucial points in the game.
 
Wilkerson and Brianna Sims led the Lady Lions with 14 points. They were followed by Jemetria Fletcher with 12 points and Canty with 10.  Sharpe was the leading rebounder with six boards. Salahuddin finished the game with a team-high six assists and four steals.
 
As a team, Paine finished the night with 27 rebounds, 28 assists, seven steals, and three blocks. The Lady Lions were 50.8 percent from the field, 42.9 percent from the arc, and 36.8 percent from the free throw line.
 
Mykala Jones led the Lady Panthers with 21 points. She was followed by Bubb with a double-double of 16 points and 19 rebounds. Sydni Davis led the team with three assists and one block. Bubb and Naquaisha Rattray each accounted for three steals.
Collectively, Clark Atlanta finished the game with 40 rebounds, 10 steals, eight assists, and one block. The team was 41 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from the arc, and 85.2 percent from the free throw line.
 
With the win, the Lady Lions move to 9-14, overall and 7-8 in conference play. The Lady Panthers drop to 8-12, overall and 4-9 in league play.
 
Paine returns to action on Saturday for the Homecoming game against Allen University at 2 p.m.
