FORT VALLEY,Ga. (Women's basketball) – The Paine College Lady Lions women's basketball team traveled to Fort Valley and defeated Fort Valley State, 61-54.
With the win, Paine moves to 8-13 overall, and 6-7 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Fort Valley drops to 8-16 overall and 6-7 in league play.
Janisha Wilkerson continued her dominance and led the Lady Lions with a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Tannasia Rhodes followed Wilkerson in points with 11 and led the team in steals with six.
Lasharon Salahuddin was the leader in assists with six. The leading blocker for Paine was
Brianna Sims with two.
As a team, Paine finished the night with 49 rebounds, 15 assists, 11 steals and four blocks. The team was 33.9 percent from the field, 25.3 percent from the arc, and 53.1 percent from the free throw line.
The Lady Wildcats were led by Antoinna Jefferson with 22 points. Britnee Hazel followed Jefferson with a double-double of 12 points and 19 rebounds. Hazel also led Fort Valley in blocks with six and in steals with seven. The Lady Wildcats were led by D'Ambria Thomas in assists with three.
Collectively, Fort Valley finished the game with 61 rebounds, 16 steals, 12 blocks, and seven assists. The team was 27.3 percent from the field, 27.3 percent from the arc, and 56.3 percent from the free throw line.
The Lady Lions return to action on Monday as they travel to face the Lady Rams of Albany State at 5:30 p.m.
