AUGUSTA, Ga. (Women's Volleyball) – The Paine College Lady Lions (2-1) volleyball team split in the tri-match against the Edward Waters College Lady Tigers and the Converse College Valkyries on Saturday at the HEAL Complex. In the first match of the day, Paine defeated Edward Waters College, 3-1. The set scores were 23-25, 25-21, 25-14, and 25-23. Converse bested the Lady Lions in the second match, 3-1. The set scores were 25-23, 24-26, 23-25, and 12-25.
Edward Waters (3-6) was led by Kaylin Davison with nine kills and 25 digs. Davison was followed by Breona Pelham with eight kills. Cassidy Williams had 20 assists for the Lady Tigers.
Collectively, Edward Waters finished the night with 36 kills, 27 assists, seven services aces, and two team blocks.
Against the Lady Tigers,
Caprice Lockett continued her dominance with 11 kills and four service aces. Lockett was followed by
Kayla Lewis (8),
Tiera Daugherty (7), and
Deja Sims-Dean (7). Lewis also lead Paine in assists with 14 while
Totyanna Corbitt had 13. Defensively,
Jahkya Smith led the team with 32 digs.
As a team, Paine finished the match with 46 kills, 34 assists, 13 service aces, and six team blocks.
In the second match of the day, Converse (2-3) was led by Katie Butler with 16 kills. Butler was followed by JaLesa Beaver with 15 kills. Krislyn Moore kept the table set for the Valkyries with 34 assists. Cayla Ward and Madeline Pate each accounted for three service aces. Defensively, Jordan Robertson led Converse with 12 digs.
Together, the Valkyries accumulated 45 kills, 40 assists, 13 service aces, 49 digs, and two team blocks.
The Lady Lions were led by
Caprice Lockett and
Deja Sims-Dean with eight kills apiece. They were followed by
Tiera Daugherty with six.
Kayla Lewis made sure Paine was able to get good looks on the ball with 15 assists. Defensively, the Lady Lions were led by
Jahkya Smith with 16 digs.
As a unit, Paine finished the match with 36 kills, 31 assists, 49 digs, four service aces, and five team blocks.
Paine will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 15 as the team faces Livingstone College at 5 p.m. in the HEAL Complex.
