AUGUSTA, Ga. (Women's Volleyball) – The Paine College Lady Lions volleyball team lost a hard fought match to Livingstone College in a high octane match that went to a deciding set, 3-2. The set scores were 19-25, 25-19, 24-26, 25-21, and 10-15.
With the loss, Paine moves to 2-2 on the season. Livingstone evens out the team's overall record to 2-2.
The Lady Blue Bears were led by Lareecia Sweeney with 24 kills, 20 digs, and seven service aces. Sweeney was followed by Kierra Acuff with six kills and a team high 32 assists. Defensively, Livingstone was kept in the game by Jekisha Rhymes with 27 digs.
As a team, the Lady Blue Bears accumulated 43 kills, 38 assists, 14 service aces, 87 digs, and eight team blocks.
Once again, the star player for Paine was
Caprice Lockett with a team high 11 kills. Lockett was followed by
Deja Sims-Dean and
Malachia Kendrick with nine kills.
Kayla Lewis kept the table set for the Lady Lions with 17 assists. The defensive leaders for Paine were
Jahkya Smith with 34 digs and
Caprice Lockett with 22.
Totyanna Corbitt proved to be a force from the serving line with three service aces.
Collectively, Paine finished the night with 48 kills, 34 assists, 95 digs, nine service aces, and four team blocks.
The Lady Lions will travel to Sumter, S.C. on Sept. 17 to face Morris College.
