ALBANY, Ga. (Women's Volleyball) – The Paine College Lady Lions volleyball team went to Albany, Ga. to compete in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Crossover over the weekend. The Lady Lions return to Augusta with a conference record of 4-4 after facing some of the toughest competition the conference had to offer.
Day 1Paine faced off with the Badgers of Spring Hill College on the first day of competition. The Lady Lions fought valiantly but were defeated in three sets. The set scores were 25-18, 25-11, and 25-18.
The Badgers were led by Madison Seuzeneau with 11 kills. Seuzeneau was followed by Ginny Hicks with nine kills. Katelyn Bobinger and Dorina Klinger each accounted for eight kills and two service aces a piece. Bobinger also finished the game with three solo blocks. Mallory Raulerson kept the table set for Spring Hill with 30 assists. Defensively, Julie Vujnovich and Randi De'Armitt had six digs each.
As a team, the Badgers finished the game 44 kills, 37 assists, 28 digs, eight service aces, and three team blocks.
Caprice Lockett led Paine with eight kills and she was followed by
Kayla Lewis and
Deja Sims-Dean with five kills each.
Totyanna Corbitt led the team in assists with seven while Lewis accounted for six.
Tiera Daugherty had the Lady Lions only service aces for the game. She and Lewis recorded one block each. Defensively,
Jahkya Smith had eight digs.
Paine finished the game with 21 kills, 17 assists, 20 digs, and five team blocks.
Game two of the day featured the Lady Lions squaring off against the Kentucky State Lady Thoroughbreds. Paine made the game interesting and kept Kentucky State on their toes but would lose the match in three sets. The set scores were 25-17, 25-7, 25-13.
The Lady Thoroughbreds were led by Tahja Oches with 12 kills and two service aces. She was followed by Micah Rogers with 11 kills and two services aces. Angelique Kyle led the team in assists with 32. Defensively, Kiara Rivera had 15 digs.
As a team, Kentucky State finished the game with 41 kills, 35 assists, 33 digs, and two team blocks.
Paine was led by Lockett with five kills and she was followed by Daugherty with four. Corbitt accounted for five assists and Lewis had four. Smith finished the game with nine digs.
The Lady Lions ended the match with 11 kills, 10 assists, 20 digs, and two team blocks.
The final match of the day saw Paine take the court against Miles College. The Lady Lions were able to take the match from the Lady Golden Bears in three sets. The set scores were 25-13, 25-21, and 25-16.
The Lady Golden Bears were led by Skyler Johnson with eight kills and one block. She was followed by Eboni Johnson with six kills. Kayla Ford kept the table set for Miles with 16 assists and two service aces. Defensively, Kamara Daughtry had 10 digs. Antwaneshia Green had one block.
Together, Miles finished the night with 28 kills, 20 assists, 39 digs, four service aces, and four team blocks.
Daugherty showed her power by leading the Lady Lions with seven kills, two service aces, and two solo blocks. Lockett followed Daugherty with five kills and two service aces. Not to be outdone, Corbitt led the team in assists with nine and accounted for two service aces of her own. Smith was the defensive leader for Paine with 23 digs.
As a team, the Lady Lions finished the game with 21 kills, 17 assists, 43 digs, nine team blocks, and seven service aces.
Paine will face Lane College at 10 a.m., Central State University at 2 p.m., and Stillman College at 6 p.m. as the SIAC Volleyball Crossover continues.
Day 2ALBANY, Ga. (Women's Volleyball) – The Paine College Lady Lions volleyball team came into the second day of the SIAC Volleyball Crossover with renewed fervor as the team went 2-1 on the day. Paine faced off against Lane College, Central State University, and Stillman College.
In the team's first match of the day, the Lady Lions bested the Lady Dragons of Lane College in three sets. The set scores were 25-8, 25-11, and 25-14.
Michla Winbush led Lane with three kills and three assists. Winbush was followed by Nicole Jones with two kills and one service ace. Defensively, Patrice Katherine finished the game with 15 digs.
Collectively, the Lady Dragons had 26 digs, nine kills, seven assists, and one service aces.
The Lady Lions were led by
Kayla Lewis with seven kills, 13 assists, and three service aces. She was followed by
Deja Sims-Dean with six kills.
Lydia Elmore and Mariam Fofana each accounted for five kills.
Totyanna Corbitt accumulated 11 assists and a team high four service aces.
Kayla Josey led the team defensively with 10 digs.
Malachia Kendrick recorded one solo block in the game.
For the game, Paine amassed 31 kills, 24 assists, 11 service aces, 35 digs and five team blocks.
Next up for the Lady Lions was a match with the Lady Marauders of Central State. Paine dominated much of the match and was able to walk away with a three set victory. The set scores were 25-18, 25-9, 25-8.
The Lady Marauders were led by Keyshinana Fennicks with seven kills. She was followed by LaKendra Worthy with five kills and one block. Regine Hicks kept the table set with 13 assists and one service ace. Defensively, Domoanica Thompson had five digs while Brea Lowe had four.
As a team, Central State finished the game with 18 kills, 15 assists, 20 digs, two team blocks, and one service ace.
Sims-Dean showed her dominance as a hitter with a team high six kills. She was followed by Lewis and
Tiera Daugherty with four kills apiece. Lewis also finished the game with nine assists.
Caprice Lockett was the defensive leader for Paine with 11 digs. Daugherty showed her power on the front row with a block and her serving accuracy with six service aces.
Collectively, the Lady Lions finished the game with 24 kills, 18 assists, 13 service aces, 30 digs, and six team blocks.
The last match of the day proved to be a test of will for Paine as the team competed against Stillman College. The Lady Lions fought hard but were defeated in three sets. The set scores were 25-17, 25-23, 25-20.
Sheila Dailey was the offensive leader for Stillman with 13 kills and one solo block. Shun Lewis Brooks finished the game with 11 kills. Kendra Ramos kept the table set with 32 assists and recorded one solo block. Danyelle Everson led Stillman defensively with 14 digs.
For the night, the Lady Tiger accumulated 43 kills, 28 assists, 42 digs, two service aces, and two team blocks.
Paine was led by team captain, Lewis, with 17 kills. She was followed by Lockett with eight kills. Lockett and Corbitt were assets to the offense with 15 assists each. Corbitt also recorded three service aces. Daugherty had a solo block and two service aces.
Jahkya Smith led Paine defensively with 15 digs.
As a team, the Lady Lions finished the game with 38 kills, 31 assists, 43 digs, and two team blocks.
Paine finished the second day of competition, 2-1. The Lady Lions close out crossover competition with LeMoyne-Owen College at 10 a.m. and Tuskegee University at 2 p.m.
Day 3ALBANY, Ga. (Women's Volleyball) – The Lady Lions closed out SIAC Crossover play by splitting with last two opponents, LeMoyne-Owen College and Tuskegee University.
In the 10 a.m. match against the Lady Magicians, Paine proved to be the better team by winning in the game in three hard earned sets. The set scores were 25-22, 25-14, and 25-12.
Jakaya Brawley led the Lady Magicians with four kills. Deniese Money, Resa Knott, and Navetta Berry accounted for three kills. Money recorded one block while Berry had a team high eight assists. Defensively, Khalia Griffin had seven digs.
As a team, LeMoyne-Owen finished the game with 18 kills, 15 assists, 24 digs, five service aces, and four team blocks.

Malachia Kendrick each recorded five kills. Lockett led the defense with 10 digs while

Collectively, Paine finished the match with 31 kills, 22 assists, 28 digs, nine team blocks, and four service aces.
The last game of the crossover for Paine was against Tuskegee University. Try as the Lady Lions did, the team was ultimately defeated by the Lady Golden Tigers in three sets. The set scores were 25-13, 25-16, and 25-18.
Tuskegee was led by Pamela Allen with nine kills. Jacqueline Wilson and Jamiah Breda-Nixon each had seven kills. Morgan Scrivens kept the table set for the Lady Golden Tigers with 20 assists. Defensively, Zhana Radford had 14 digs. Radford and Janae Graham finished the game with three service aces. Donovan Wingfield had one solo block.
Together, Tuskegee combined for 29 kilss, 25 assists, 34 digs, nine service aces, and three team blocks.
Sims-Dean led the way for Paine with five kills. Daugherty and Lewis accounted for four kills. Daugherty and Kendrick recorded a solo block each. Corbitt was the assist leader for the Lady Lions with six. Smith was the defensive leader for Paine with 11 digs and proved to be a force behind the serving line with two service aces.
As a team, the Lady Lions finished the match with 16 kills, 12 assists, three service aces, 29 digs, and seven team blocks.
Paine will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 30 as the team heads to Columbia, S.C. to face Allen University.
