AUGUSTA, Ga. (Men's Basketball) – The Paine College Lions basketball team played host to the Spring Hill College Badgers in a Monday meeting in the HEAL Complex. The Lions rallied against Spring Hill but fell just shy and were defeated, 72-69.
With the loss, Paine drops to 4-10, overall, 1-4 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play and the Badgers move to 2-8, overall, and 1-2 in league play.
The Lions were led by
Christian Nobles with 16 points and three steals. Nobles was followed by
Don Quarles with 13 points and six rebounds.
Kaderious Compton posted a team high of seven rebounds.
Patrick Petty kept the table set for the Lions with five assists. Yusuf Riley recorded the Lions lone block for the night.
Collectively, Paine finished the game with 22 rebounds, nine assists, eight steals and one block. The team was 41.1 percent from the field, 15.8 percent from the arc and 69 percent from the free throw line.
Sawyer Glick was the leader for Spring Hill with a double-double of 20 points and team high 11 rebounds. Glick was followed by Chase Shellman with 13 points and seven rebounds and Walter Massey with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds. Jared Holland was the assist man for the Badgers with four.
As a team, Spring Hill finished the night with 37 rebounds, 16 assists, and three steals. The team was 60.9 percent from the field, 45.5 percent from three point range, and 78.6 percent from the stripe.
The Paine men continue the season as they head to Memphis, Tenn. to face LeMoyne-Owen College on Jan. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
