AUGUSTA, Ga. (Women's Basketball) – The Paine College Lady Lions basketball team hosted the Spring Hill College Lady Badgers on a Monday in the HEAL Complex. The Lady Lions rallied against Spring Hill but could not close the deal and were defeated, 70-62.
With the loss, Paine drops to 4-7, overall, 2-3 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play and the Lady Badgers move to 4-8, overall, and 2-1 in league play.
The Lady Lions were led by
Ashley Watts with 20 points and four assists. Watts was followed by
Janisha Wilkerson with 16 points and a team high eight rebounds.
Tannasia Rhodes and freshman
Mikalia Wallace each recorded two steals.
Aalyiha Wright showed up big in the paint with four blocks.
Collectively, Paine finished the game with 31 rebounds, 12 assists, nine blocks, and eight steals. The team was 40.7 percent from the field, 66.7 percent from the arc and 58.3 percent from the free throw line.
Jennifer Clark was the leader for Spring Hill with 14 points. Clark was followed by Jewel Hill with 13 points and two blocks. On the boards for the Lady Badgers, Camry Johnson accounted for 12 rebounds.
As a team, Spring Hill finished the night with 33 rebounds, 12 assists, eight steals, and four blocks. The team was 46.2 percent from the field, 30.8 percent from three point range, and 75 percent from the stripe.
The Paine women continue the season as they head to Memphis, Tenn. to face LeMoyne-Owen College on Jan. 7 at 5:30 p.m.
