Memphis, Tenn. (Women's Basketball) – The Paine College women's basketball team traveled to face the LeMoyne-Owen College Lady Magicians on Thursday. The Lady Lions hung in the game against LeMoyne-Owen but eight crucial late game turnovers would lead to their defeat, 82-81.
With the loss, Paine drops to 4-11, overall, 2-4 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play and the Lady Magicians move to 4-8, overall, and 2-2 in league play.
Newcomer
Chasity Mullins led the way for the Lady Lions with 20 points and four steals. Mullins was followed by
Aalyiha Wright with 17 points, four steals and three blocks. Other Paine women who finished the game with great numbers were
Janisha Wilkerson with 14 points and nine rebounds and
Delisia Sharpe with a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Collectively, Paine finished the game with 49 rebounds, 19 assists, 12 steals and nine blocks. The team was 43.1 percent from the field, 21.4 percent from the arc and 69.6 percent from the free throw line.
Teresa Mays was the leader for LeMoyne-Owen with a 31 points and a team high six steals. Mays was followed by Maraja Johnson with 22 points and five steals. Rachel Hughes had a game-high 15 rebounds. Shantiera Miller was the assist woman for the Lady Magicians with four.
As a team, Spring Hill finished the night with 36 rebounds, 18 steals, six assists and two blocks. The team was 38.1 percent from the field, 22.2 percent from three point range, and 71.1 percent from the stripe.
The Paine women continue the season as they return home to the HEAL Complex to face Tuskegee University on Jan. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
