AUGUSTA, Ga. (Men's Basketball) – The Paine College Lions basketball team hosted the Morehouse College Maroon Tigers on Monday in the last home game of the season. The Lions put the pedal to the floor and never let up as they defeated the Maroon Tigers, 77-70.
The Lions move to 7-20, overall, and 3-14 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. Morehouse moves to 13-8, overall, and 9-7 in league play.
Rahiem Connelly led the way for Paine in scoring with game-high 20 points. Connelly was followed by
Don Quarles with double-double 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Arnis Libazs made his presence known with 13 points and five board. The assist leader for the Lions was
Eric Jones with seven.
Arnold Okechukwu recorded a game-high three blocks.
The Lions finished the game with 32 rebounds, 17 assists, six blocks and seven steals. The team was 48.1 percent from the field, 47.1 percent from three point range, and 63 percent from the free throw line.
The Maroon Tigers were led by Ayinde Russell with 16 points and seven assists. Russell was followed by Robert Askew with 14 points. Miodrag Minic led the team in rebounding with eight boards. Martravious Little had a nose for the ball with four steals.
Morehouse finished the night with 34 rebounds, 16 assists, eight steals, and oneblocks. The team was 43.8 percent from the field, 36 percent from the arc, and 62.5 percent from the stripe.
The Paine men will end the season on the road in Atlanta to play Morehouse again on Feb. 27 at 3 p.m.
