AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Paine College women' s basketball team fell to CIAA foe Fayetteville State University, 64-56, on Wednesday night at the HEAL Complex.
The Lady Lions fall to (6-9, 3-4 SIAC) while the Broncos Improve to (4-11, 2-4 CIAA).
After leading for most of the first two quarters PC went into the locker room down by only one point, 30-29. The third and fourth periods proved to be the difference as FSU made their home on the free-throw line connecting on a game-high 30-of-39 while Paine only hit 10-of-19 from the charity strip.
Lady Lions standout forward,
Janisha Wilkerson, again led the team with a game-high 16 points, nine rebounds including five blocks. PC got another strong performance from
Chasity Mullins who finished with 10 points while pulling down eight boards.
Tania Ward chipped in with 10 points off the bench.
Paine connected on a game-high 36.1 (22-of-61) percent from the field, but shot poorly from behind the arc hitting on only 12.5 (2-of-16) percent. PC also forced 12 Fayetteville State turnovers while blocking seven shots.
The Broncos were led by center Chenwendu Maduegbunam who finished with a double-double, scoring 13 points while hauling down 10 rebounds including four blocks. Yakima Clifton had 12 points while Shantel Bennett chipped in with 10 points and four rebounds.
The Lady Lions return to action this Saturday as they travel to Albany, Georgia to take on eastern division foe, the Lady Rams of Albany State University at 1 p.m.
