FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Paine College women's basketball team dropped their first road game of the year at Fayetteville State, 68-51, Tuesday evening in Fayetteville, N.C.
PC falls to 0-2 on the young season while the Lady Broncos evened their record at 2-2.
The Lady Lions got off to a good start as freshman Keondra Archie (Eastover, S.C.) scored nine first quarter points to keep PC within striking distance and only down 14-12 at the end of the period. FSU turned up the defensive intensity in the second quarter holding Paine to just 7 points while taking a 29-19 advantage into the half.
Paine played a much better second half but could not overcome the first half deficit.
Paine again was led by Archie who finished with team-highs 15 points while hauling down eight rebounds and two blocks. Sophomore
Tania Ward (Jesup, Ga.) was the only other Lady Lion in double-figures with 10 points while dishing out four assist.
PC shot 31.5 (17-of-54) percent from the field. Although Paine held Fayetteville State scoreless from the three-point line, they only connected on two shots from behind the arc. The Lady Broncos controlled the boards out-rebounding the Lady Lions 47-33 including a 23-14 advantage on the offensive glass.
FSU was led by Jamesha Mosley who finished with 15 points and eight boards. Shantel Bennett added 12 points while Noni Kuuma chipped in with 10 points off the bench.
The Lady Lions will travel to Morrow, Ga. after the Thanksgiving holiday to take on Clayton State (Nov. 25) at 2 p.m.
