Box Score MORROW, Ga. – The Paine College Lady Lions struggled from the field most of the game and fell on the road at Clayton State, 99-58, Saturday afternoon in Morrow, Ga.
PC falls to 0-3 on the season while the Lakers improve to 1-3.
Clayton State jumped on the Lady Lions early leading 26-11 after the first period and went into the locker room with a 55-24 advantage. Paine played a much better second half and they shot 50.0 (12-of-24) percent from the field and were only outscored 44-34.
The Lady Lions were led by junior transfer Hermione Bankole' (Yonne, France) who played her first game of the season and scored 13 points in just 17 minutes off the bench. Freshman Keondra Archie (Eastover, S.C.) had another strong performance as she finished the day with 12 points while grabbing eight boards and one block.
PC shot 36.7 (18-of-49) percent for the game and only 18.2 (2-of-11) from long range. Clayton State out-rebounded the Lady Lions 53-38 included a 28-10 lead on the offensive end which produced a 29-6 advantage on second-chance points. The Lakers scored 39 points off of 37 forced turnovers.
CSU had four players in double-figures on the day led by Velendia Johnson who finished with a double-double, 21 points while hauling down 11 rebounds. Aleisha Merriweather chipped in with 18 points while Abreyln Rackley and Aysia Grimsley had 13 and 10 points respectively.
The Lady Lions will start conference play next Friday night (Nov. 30) as they travel to Atlanta, Ga. to take on the Lady Panthers of Clark Atlanta University at 6 p.m.
