Strong Second Half Leads Lady Lions To Victory Over Clark Atlanta

AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Paine College Lady Lions used a strong third quarter surge to complete the season sweep of Clark Atlanta University, 75-66, Thursday evening at the HEAL Complex.

PC improves to 11-13 overall and 5-8 in the SIAC while the Lady Panthers fall to 8-14 on the season and 3-9 in conference play.

After being down 37-33 at halftime the Lady Lions outscored CAU 26-6 in the third period which proved to be the difference. Paine continued the surge into the fourth period taking their largest lead at 18 with 8:53 remaining in the ball game. PC withstood some late Clark Atlanta runs to hold on to the nine point victory.

Paine was again led by senior forward Janisha Wilkerson who picked up her 17th double-double of the year after scoring a game-high 23 points, hauled down 15 rebounds and had five assist to go along with one block. Senior Kayla Lewis had 12 points going 5-of-8 from the field while reigning SIAC newcomer of the week, Simira Huggins, came off the bench to score 12 points included 3-of-5 from behind the arc. Sophomore gaurd Tierra Boykin just missed a double-double finishing just one poine and one rebound off of the feat after finishing with nine points and nine rebounds.

The Lady Lions out-rebounded The Lady Panthers 45-31 on the glass and shot 48.2 (27-of-56) percent from the field. CAU forced 25 PC turnovers on the night. Clark Atlanta was led by Marissa Mandeldove who finished with a team-high 18 while Lauren Turner had a double-double finishing with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Paine College returns to actions this Saturday, February 18, as they travel to Birmingham, Alabama to take on the Golden Bears of Miles College. Tip time is 1 p.m. CT.
