BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Paine College women's basketball team saw their season come to an end after a loss to LeMoyne-Owen, 67-53, in the opening round of the 2017 SIAC Basketball Tournament on Monday evening at the Bill Harris Arena.
The Lady Magicians controlled the tempo from the outset leading 21-8 after the first period. PC fought back in the second period cutting the to nine points before going into the locker rooms trailing 31-22. LOC continued their aggressive play in the second half and had their largest at 17 with 6:35 remaining in the ball game. LeMoyne-Owen would never trail.
Senior forward
Janisha Wilkerson finished her collegiate career with a 10 point, seven rebound, four black shot performance while
Kayla Lewis was the only other Lady Lion in double figures with 12 points. Paine forced 17 LeMoyne-Owen turnovers while scoring 26 points off of the Lady Magician mishaps. PC shot only 30.0 (21-of-70) percent from the field.
LOC had four players in double-figures and were led by Teresa Mays who finished with 17 points and four rebounds. Tenesha Wright had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds while Champale Grays chipped in with 15 points, nine rebounds and three blocks.
The Lady Lions close out the 2016-17 season with a 11-17 overall record, and a fourth place finish in the SIAC's Eastern Division.
