COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Paine College volleyball team lost a 3-2 decision at Allen Tuesday evening.
Set scores were 16-25, 25-27, 27-25, 25-21, 14-16.
The Lady Lions fall to 1-14 on the season while Allen improves to 9-9.
Head coach
Kisha Lucette's team was led by
Najla Betts' team-high 11 kills while
Soleil Johnson added a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs.
Daija Broadnax accounted for nine kills and
Kelsey Williams added six.
Kelsey Williams also tallied 28 assists to go along with seven digs and two aces. Betts led everyone on the team with three aces while Johnson added two.
Defensively,
Jordan Fortson amassed 23 digs. At the net, Betts blocked five attempts while Johnson,
Akirah McCrae and
Kennedy Williams had three blocks apiece.
After dropping the first two sets, Lucette's team jumped out to a 7-3 lead. Allen grabbed an 18-11 advantage but Johnson and Betts started a run with a pair of blocks.
Kelsey Williams served up two aces. Down 24-22, two errors by the home team and a kill from
Kennedy Williams made it 25-22. Tied at 25-25, two straight miscues by the Yellow Jackets gave the Lady Lions the two-point win.

Kennedy Williams hammered home a kill.
Demi McKeever served up an ace before Johnson slammed home two kills.
Kennedy Williams forced a fifth set with a block.
Down 5-1 and later 10-5 in the fifth stanza, the Lady Lions roared back, pulling within one at 12-11. Down 14-12, Betts and McCrae combined for a block. A kill by Broadnax knotted the score at 14-14. However, AU managed to score the last two points for the win.
The Lady Lions return to action Friday when they host Clinton at 6 p.m.
