AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College volleyball team posted a 3-1 win over Clinton College Friday evening.

The Lady Lions are now 2-14 on the season.

In the first set, Paine stormed out to an 8-1 lead with Makayla Evans serving seven straight points. Daija Broadnax had a pair of points during the middle of the spurt. Paine increased its lead to 15-5 on a kill from Soleil Johnson, forcing a time-out. Up 21-9, head coach Kish Lucette's team managed to cruise to the 25-11 victory.

After dropping the second set, the Lady Lions' Micah Taylor served five straight points. During the run, she posted two aces while Makayla Evans had a kill. Up 24-18, Betts slammed home a pass from Myah Beasley for the 25-18 win.

Paine overcame an early deficit in the fourth frame. Tied at 22-22, an error gave the home squad a one-point edge. Tied at 24-24, Broadnax hammered home a kill. Kelsey Williams and Kennedy Williams combined for a block for the two-point win.

For the match, Akirah McCrae led the team with eight kills. Evans had six while Betts, Broadnax and Johnson had five apiece.

Kelsey Williams dished out 15 assists while Beasley added six.

Jordan Fortson led the defense with 27 digs. Evans added 18 while McKeever chipped in 13. At the net, Betts was in on five blocks while McCrae totaled six.

Taylor led the way with four aces while Evans added three.

The Lady Lions return to action when they play at Albany State on Monday, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m.
