AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College volleyball team lost a 3-0 contest to Bob Jones Tuesday evening at the Heal Complex.
The Lady Lions are now 2-18 on the season. The Bruins improve to 20-10.
Akirah McCrae led the way with 12 kills while hitting .435.
Soleil Johnson accounted for six kills with a .263 attack percentage.
Kelsey Williams dished out 22 assists while
Makayla Evans served up a pair of aces.
Defensively,
Jordan Fortson led the way with 17 digs. Evans notched 13 digs while Williams and Johnson had 12 kills apiece.
Micah Taylor chipped in 10 digs.
At the net,
Kennedy Williams was in on seven blocks. McCrae blocked five attempts while Johnson was in on four blocks.
In the first set, head coach
Kisha Lucette's team jumped out to a 5-0 edge thanks in part to an ace from Evans and a block from
Kennedy Williams and McCrae. In the back-and-forth first frame, Paine took a 25-24 lead when Johnson and McCrae stuffed an attempt. However, the visitors managed to score the final three points for the win.
The Lady Lions took a 10-5 lead in the second stanza after a kill from McCrae and an ace by her. Tied at 17-17, the Bruins managed to embark on a 6-0 spurt en route to the victory.
Down 15-11 in the third set, Lucette's team tied the score at 15-15 when Johnson slammed home a kill. McCrae's kill gave the home team an 18-17 lead. A 5-0 run by Bob Jones helped the visitors to the hard-fought victory.
The Lady Lions return to action Saturday when they host Allen at 2 p.m.
