ATLANTA - The Paine College women's golf team won the 2022 Farmers Insurance HBCU DII Invitational Championship this past week at the Chateau Elan Resort in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Lady Lions shot a combined 1042 (+190) to earn the championship topping Fisk University who shot 1480 (+628) during the two day event.

"I'm excited about our women's golf team getting their first tournament win," said Head Coach Dan Venema. "It's a great win for the program as we continue to develop. We are still fighting for a chance to compete in the NCCAA National Championship."

Freshman Taya Buxton (Powell, Ohio) paced PC with a 243 (+30) scorecard earning her the top spot on the leaderboard. She was following by freshman Pamela Cabrera (Orlando, Fla.) who finished second with a 253 (+40) score, while fellow freshman's Lawryn Radford (Grand Prairie, Tex.) and Dakota Baker (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished 3rd (+48) and 4th (+72) respectively.

"Our incredible ladies represented themselves and Paine College very well," said Athletic Director Selina Kohn. "Being a first year program and going out there and winning a major event speaks to the type of student-athletes that PC is recruiting. I'm excited to see what the future holds for these fabulous freshmen."

The Lady Lions return to action on October 17th and 18th as they travel to Sebring, Fla. to compete in the Webber International Invitational.
