AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College volleyball team lost a hard-fought 3-1 contest to Clark Atlanta Thursday evening.
The Lady Lions are now 1-13 on the season while the Panthers improve to 8-13 on the year.
After dropping the first set, head coach
Kisha Lucette's team trailed 14-12 in the second frame. However, a block by
Daija Broadnax and
Akirah McCrae pulled the team within one. Two plays later, an ace by
Myah Beasley gave the home team a 15-14 advantage.
The Lady Lions built a three-point edge at 21-18 after a kill from
Najla Betts, forcing a time-out. Leading 24-19, Paine College saw the visitors score the next four points before Betts finished off the set with a kill in the 25-23 win.
For the match, Paine was led by Betts and McCrae as each had seven kills.
Kelsey Williams distributed 14 assists in the match.
Defensively,
Jordan Fortson led the way with 22 digs while Beasley accounted for 10.
Makayla Evans added seven.
Soleil Johnson, McCrae and
Kennedy Williams each had four blocks in the loss.
The Lady Lions return to action Tuesday when they travel to Allen for a 6 p.m., contest.
