Lions Open Season With Road Win At Toccoa Falls

TOCCOA FALLS, Ga. – The Paine College men's basketball team opened the season with an 83-78 road victory at Toccoa Falls.

The Lions improve to 1-0 while TFC falls to 1-2.

Nate Adams led the way with a game-high 28 points on 12-of-21 shooting om the floor. He narrowly missed out on a double-double with nine boards. 

Jakobe Williams hit five-of-eight from the floor and nine-of-10 from the charity stripe en route to a 21-point performance. Quinnton Jackson chipped in 16 points to go along with four rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.

Paine jumped out to a 14-8 lead on a jumper by Adams with 14:32 to play in the first half. The Lions maintained the advantage throughout the period despite the home team pulling within one on a few occasions. 

The visitors pushed the lead to nine a few times during the second half only to see TFC respond for a 64-63 lead with 8:53 to play.

Paine led 74-72 with 2:21 to go and managed to push the margin to seven on a Williams three-ball with 1:24 to play. TFC pulled within three at 81-78 with 12 seconds to go but Williams hit a pair of free throws, sealing the victory.

For the game, Paine College hit 31-of-65 from the floor (47.7 percent), including seven-of-19 from distance (36.8 percent). The squad was also solid from the foul line, hitting 14-of-19 (73.7 percent).

The Lions return to action Thursday when they play at Brewton Parker at 7 p.m.
