AUGUSTA, Ga.- The Paine College volleyball team lost a 3-0 decision to Albany State Thursday evening in the regular-season finale.
The Lady Lions are now 2-20 on the season while the Golden Rams improve to 17-7.
Set scores were 25-16, 25-16, 25-10.
Akiah McCrae led the home team with five kills while hitting .214.
Daija Broadnax accounted for three kills while
Najla Betts,
Kelsey Williams and
Kennedy Williams had two kills apiece.
Kelsey Williams distributed 14 assists in the loss. She and
Jordan Fortson accounted for an ace apiece.
McCrae led the team with four blocks in the match, including a pair of solo blocks. Broadnax and
Kennedy Williams were each in on three blocks. Betts had a pair of blocks and
Kelsey Williams had one block assist.
Jordan Fortson was outstanding along the back line, registering 17 digs to lead everyone.
Makayla Evans totaled six digs while
Micah Taylor and
Kelsey Williams had five digs apiece.
Down 16-10 in the first set, head coach
Kisha Lucette's team pulled within three. Broadnax and McCrae were in on a block before Broadnax slammed home a kill. An error by the visitors pulled the team within three at 16-13. However, that was as close as the team would get in the set.
Trailing 18-11 in the second frame, McCrae took a pass from
Kelsey Williams and registered the kill.
Kelsey Williams and
Kennedy Williams combined for a block before an error by the Golden Rams made it 18-14. ASU managed to hold off the home squad in the nine-point win.
The Lady Lions return to action Nov. 17 for the Region Tournament. The match will be played at 6 p.m.
