AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College men's basketball team picked up its second straight victory with a 79-75 win over Edward Waters Saturday.
The Lions are now 5-6 on the season.
Jakobe Williams led the way with 22 points on nine-of-18 shooting from the floor.
Quinnton Jackson added 21 points and six assists in the victory while
Nate Adams narrowly missed out on a double-double with 14 points to go along with nine rebounds.
Elija Greer chipped in 10 points.
Kelvin Johnson totaled six points and snagged nine rebounds for the home team.
Tied at 33-33 at the break, the Lions would jump ahead by two points only to see the visitors tie it once again in the early going of the second period.
Trailing 45-43, Adams buried a jumper. After a steal by Williams and a foul, he calmly connected on both free throws for a 47-45 lead. The Lions extended the margin to seven, 52-45, on two free throws by Adams with 11:28 to play.
The visitors tied the game at 52-52 but Paine College started to pull away. Leading 62-57, Jackson converted an old-fashioned three-point play. A jumper by Williams made it 67-59. Two charity tosses by Johnson extended the margin to double figures, 69-59 en route to the win.
For the game, Paine College hit 29-of-66 from the floor (43.9 percent) and made 20-of-24 from the charity stripe (83.3 percent). The squad registered 24 points in the paint and had 23 points off turnovers in the win.
The Lions return to action Monday when they play at Elizabeth City State at 7 p.m.
