Paine College Posts 76-59 Win Over Fort Lauderdale

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College men's basketball team registered a 76-59 win over Fort Lauderdale Friday evening.

The Lions are now 3-4 on the season.

Paine College was led by Nate Adams, who poured in a game-high 22 points to go along with 11 rebounds for a double-double. James Davis added 15 points and eight rebounds while Quinnton Jackson and Jakobe Williams added 13 points apiece. Williams dished out seven assists in the victory.

Paine College jumped out to an 11-4 edge when Nate Adams found Quinnton Jackson for a jumper at the 17:32 mark. Moments later, Adams drained a three-ball off a pass from Williams for a 16-8 edge. Jackson's lay-up extended the margin to double digits at the 14:59 mark, 18-8.

Leading 26-17, Williams hit a shot. Then, Adams corralled a rebound and tipped in the shot for a 30-17 margin. However, the visitors took a 33-32 lead. Fort Lauderdale led 39-35 before Jackson hit two free throws after being fouled on a three-point try. Kelvin Johnson nailed a pair of free throws, tying the game at 39-39 at the break.

The Lions took the lead immediately in the second half and never looked back. The squad made it 47-40 on a tip-in by Davis. Although the visitors pulled within two at 50-48, the Lions answered. Adams hit back-to-back three-point shots for a 58-50 lead before a lay-up from Davis extended the margin to 10, 60-50.

A free throw by Williams made it 67-54 with 4:25 to play. Paine College ended the game with an emphatic dunk from Adams off a lob from Williams.

For the game, Paine College hit 27-of-62 from the floor (43.5 percent). The team snagged 41 rebounds and dished out 15 assists.  

The Lions return to action tomorrow when they play at Queens at 7 p.m.
