AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College men's basketball team registered a 67-64 victory over Brewton-Parker Tuesday evening when
Nate Adams blocked a last-second three-point shot.
The Lions are now 4-6 on the season.
Paine College was led by
Quinnton Jackson's 23 points and six assists.
Jakobe Williams added 16 points while Adams posted his second straight double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. He also blocked five shots in the win.
The Lions jumped out to an early 10-3 lead on a dunk by Williams at the 15:51 mark. Leading 20-11, Jackson buried a three-ball off a pass from Williams to go up 12. A jumper by Adams in the paint pushed the margin to 13, 25-12, with 10:30 to play in the half.
Up 30-26, Williams hit four straight free throws for an eight-point margin at the 4:14 mark. Paine College led 36-28 before Williams sliced through the defense for a bucket. A pair of charity tosses from
James Davis and two more from Williams extended the advantage to 14, 42-28. The teams traded points for a 44-30 score at the break.
Tied at 54-54, Adams hit a free throw at the 6:20 mark. After a block by Adams,
Stephon Auguste converted the Adams pass into a three-point basket. Up 58-56, Williams nailed a floater in the lane for a four-point edge with 5:12 to play.
Jackson canned two free throws at the 2:59 mark before
Kelvin Johnson laid it up-and-in off a pass from Jackson for an eight-point lead. BPC fought back, pulling within two with 34 ticks on the clock on a three-point ball. However, a steal and free throw by Williams made it a three-point score.
A last-second shot was blocked by Adams, sealing the victory.
For the game, Paine hit 25-of-57 from the floor (43.9 percent) and buried 14-of-20 from the charity stripe. The team combined to block 10 shots and post eight steals.
The Lions return to action Saturday when they host Edward Waters at 4 p.m.
