Paine College Splits Tri-Match

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Paine College volleyball team split a tri-match at Trinity Baptist on Saturday. 

The Lady Lions lost a 3-2 decision to Wesleyan College before knocking off the host school, Trinity Baptist, 3-1.

Paine is now 1-7 on the season.

Against Wesleyan College, Daija Broadnax led everyone with nine kills while hitting .333. Najla Betts, Soleil Johnson and Akirah McCrae had five kills apiece. Shacari Hardy and Kennedy Williams contributed four kills each.

At the service line, Myah Beasley, Makayla Evans and Jordan Fortson had two aces apiece. 

Defensively, Betts posted four total blocks as did McCrae. Fortson led everyone with 16 digs while Evans contributed nine. 

In the win over TBC, Williams slammed home nine kills while Broadnax and McCrae had five apiece. McCrae hit .357 for the contest.

Beasley dished out a team-high 24 assists to go along with a pair of aces.  Williams led everyone with three aces. 

Defensively, Betts and McCrae had three solo blocks apiece while Williams stuffed two attempts. Fortson led the victors with 17 digs and Evans had seven.

The Lady Lions return to action Wednesday when they play at Clark Atlanta at 6 p.m.
