AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College volleyball team lost a 3-0 decision to Southern Wesleyan Tuesday night in the home opener.
Set scores were 25-13. 25-6, 25-13.
The Lady Lions are 0-4 on the season.
Head coach
Kisha Lucette's team was led by
Akirah McCrae's five kills while hitting .333.
Najla Betts and
Kennedy Williams each added three kills.
Kelsey Williams dished out eight assists.
Defensively,
Jordan Fortson notched seven digs while Demi Mckeever had five. At the net, McRae and
Kennedy Williams had two blocks apiece while
Shacari Hardy had a solo block.
In the first set, Paine trailed 7-2 but McCrae and
Kennedy Williams tallied back-to-back kills to pull within three. Down 18-8, Williams slammed home a kill to pull within nine. The home team made it 20-12 on a kill from Amber Bass, but that was as close as the team could get.
In the third stanza, it was a back-and-forth affair in the early going. Down 4-1, a miscue put the score at 4-2. McRae and Betts teamed up for a block before an ace from
Makayla Evans knotted the score at 4-4. Trailing 14-6, the Lady Lions went on a 5-2 spurt to make it 16-11. During the run, Hardy registered a solo block.
The Lady Lions return to action on Sept. 10 when they travel to Carolina University for a 1 p.m., contest.
