AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College men's basketball team lost a 94-90 contest to Clinton College Monday evening.
The Lions are now 5-11 on the season.
Paine College was paced by
Quinnton Jackson's game-high 22 points. Elijah Greer added 20 points while
Nate Adams tallied 17 points to go along with five assists.
Calvin Johnson and
Dejuan Lockett added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
In the first half, the home squad led 23-19 on
Dejuan Lockett's bucket in the lane with 9:45 to go. Clinton College managed to take a 44-39 lead but the Lions were quick to respond.
Nate Adams hit two free throws with 1:19 to play. He then canned a jumper with 60 seconds remaining in the half. After a steal, Jackson threw down a thunderous dunk for a 45-44 margin. Jackson canned another shot from inside before the Golden Bears made it 47-46 at the break.
Down by six with 5:37 to play, the Lions cut into the deficit to make it a two-point game on a pair of occasions. However, the visitors managed to stretch the margin back to seven points with 1:26 to go.
With 41 ticks on the clock, Jackson hit a three-point shot, but it was as close as the team could get in the waning seconds.
For the game, Paine hit 36-of-70 from the floor (51.4 percent). The squad buried 13-of-17 from the foul line. The team snagged 32 rebounds and had 18 fast break points.
The Lions return to action Saturday, Jan. 28, when they host Carolina University at 4 p.m.
