AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College men's basketball team picked up an 88-81 victory Saturday afternoon against Carolina.
The Lions are now 6-11 on the year.
Quinnton Jackson led the way with 23 points to go along with seven steals and five rebounds.
Elija Greer tallied 20 points and eight rebounds while
Calvin Johnson poured in 12 points.
Jakobe Williams and
Dejuan Lockett netted nine points apiece.
Trailing by two at the break, the Lions outscored the Bruins 55-46 over the final 20 minutes of action.
Greer's back-to-back buckets gave the home team a 39-35 lead. Down 53-50,
Calvin Johnson hit a shot to pull the squad within one. A tip-in by Williams put the Lions ahead by one, 54-53.
Carolina held a 63-60 lead before
James Davis converted a lay-up.
Quinnton Jackson put the team up one before Williams threw down a highlight-worthy dunk.
The back-and-forth affair saw the game tied at 72-72. Greer nailed a three-ball, which gave the home team the lead for good. Up 75-73,
Quinnton Jackson nailed a jumper. He converted two free throws before Greer buried two charity tosses. A lay-up by Greer sealed the deal with 37 seconds remaining with the score standing at 83-73.
For the game, Paine hit 35-of-74 from the floor (47.3 percent), including five three-point baskets. The team registered 22 points off turnovers, had 26 points on the break and posted 48 points in the lane.
The Lions return to action Tuesday at Saint Leo. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
