AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College women's basketball team knocked off Bob Jones Monday evening 70-62.

Head coach Kisha Lucette's team was led by Kyra McCrary's 16-point, 12-rebound double-double effort. Ashley Rubio added 12 points and seven rebounds while Neani Stewart tallied 10 points.

Alexandria Caples had eight points and eight boards while Myah Beasley totaled eight points.

Defensively, Stewart registered four steals.

Trailing 15-7, Caples hit a jumper with 1:47 to play. She then buried another shot with 19 seconds remaining in the quarter, making it 15-11.

A basket from Myah Beasley and two charity tosses from Stewart knotted the game at 15-15. Bob Jones managed to take a 29-22 lead before McCrary converted a jumper in the lane, pulling the home team within four at the break, 29-24.

Bob Jones led 48-34 before Rubio hit a three-ball. Beasley's basket made it 48-39 heading into the fourth frame.

Paine tied the game at 52-52 on a three-ball by Rubio with 6:38 to play. After trailing by five, Stewart's shot from distance put the home team ahead 62-61. That sparked a 12-1 run to end the game. Lucette's team turned up the defensive pressure and converted free throws down the stretch.

Beasley hit two free throws before McCrary nailed a jumper with 1:05 to go. Rubio made two charity tosses before Stewart sealed the win with two more free throws with 15 ticks remaining for a 70-61 lead.

For the game, Paine hit 24-of-67 from the floor and 17-of-24 from the charity stripe.  

The Lady Lions return to action Thursday, Feb. 9 when they play at Carolina University.
