AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College baseball team picked up a pair of victories over Morris Wednesday by scores of 5-4 and 3-1.
In game one, the Lions fell behind 1-0 in the first before registering three runs to take the lead. Morris fought back to take a 4-3 lead in the fourth, but the host school tied it in the bottom of the fourth before scoring the game-winning run an inning later.
For the game,
Raul Guerrero,
Jhoel Melone,
Dominique Page and
Kris Williams all had hits. Guerrero and Melone each had doubles.
Alejandro Fernandez, Melone and Page all had one RBI apiece. Williams led the way, crossing home twice. Guerero, Melone and Page all touched home plate.
Page swiped a base while Williams picked up two stolen bags.
Hunter Justice went the distance, striking out nine batters in the complete-game victory.
In game two,
Denny Daza led the way with three hits. Guerrero drove in the team's lone RBI while Daza, Guerrero and Page all crossed home in the 3-1 win.
Paine took the lead in the first with a run and pushed across another Lion in the third. PC went up 3-0 with a run in the fifth. Morris scored in the sixth but
Emmanuel Martinez did hs job on the mound. He struck out eight in the complete game victory.
The Lions return to action Sunday when they host Florida National in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
