AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College baseball team split a doubleheader with Florida National Sunday.
The Lions dropped the first game 10-1 before winning game two 13-4.
In game one, FNU jumped on top with a run in the first, two in the third and two more in the fourth. The visitors tacked on four runs in the sixth before PC got on the scoreboard.
FNU added a run in the seventh for the final margin.
The Lions posted three hits in the contest.
Joshua Cruz,
Denny Daza and
Camillo Martinez all registered base knocks. Daza crossed home plate for the team's lone run. Cruz tallied a double for the team's lone extra base hit. On the mound,
Hunter Justice struck out six batters.
In game two, PC jumped on the board with six runs in the first and one in the second for a 7-0 edge. FNU plated two runs in the fourth but the Lions countered with four runs in the bottom of the frame.
Leading 11-2, PC added two runs in the sixth before FNU added a run in the seventh for the final margin.
Daza and
Alejandro Fernandez each had four hits in the game. Fernandez,
Jeury Beato and
Raul Guerrero all had three RBI apiece. Cruz and
Kris Williams each drove in two runs.
Jhoel Melone and Beato had three hits apiece while Cruz added two base knocks.
Rayvion Alexander crossed home three times while Daza reached home safely twice.
Fabio Warff went the distance on the mound. He struck out four batters and gave up three earned runs on nine hits with just one walk.
The Lions return to action Saturday, March 11 at Florida Memorial.
