AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College baseball team scored in five consecutive innings in the 12-8 victory over Carolina University.
The Lions are now 9-7 on the season.
PC took a 1-0 lead in the second but the Bruins plated two runs in the top of the third. The Lions responded with three runs in the third and four in the fourth to break open the game.
The teams each plated a run in the fifth. Leading 9-4 in the bottom of the sixth, PC put the game away with three more runs. CU added four runs in the eighth but the Lions were not seriously threatened in the victory.
Rayvion Alexander led the way with three hits, two RBI and three runs.
Joshua Cruz,
Jhoel Melone,
Jeury Beato and
Kris Williams all had a pair of hits.
Alejandro Fernandez drove in two while
Denny Daza, Cruz and Melone each scored twice.
Daza, Cruz and Melone each posted doubles while Alexander and Beato launched home runs.
Hunter Justice worked seven strong innings en route to picking up the victory. He struck out eight and gave up four runs, three of which were earned, on eight hits.
Emmanuel Martinez and
Christian Tibabijo each saw time on the mound. Tibabijo recorded two strikeouts.
The teams return to action Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
