MIAMI, Fla. – The Paine College baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader at Atlantis Friday by scores of 4-3 and 3-2.
The Lions are now 9-9 on the season.
PC fell behind 4-0 after the home team posted two runs in the fourth and fifth frames. The Lions battled back, posting three runs in the sixth. However, it was not enough in the one-run loss.
Jeury Beato and
Alejandro Fernandez posted doubles in the game. Beato drove in two runs while Fernandez knocked in one run.
Joshua Cruz,
Vladimir Lemos and
Jhoel Melone all crossed home in the loss.
Hunter Justice took the loss despite throwing all six innings. He had two strikeouts and did not walk a batter.
In the nightcap, the Lions fell behind 1-0 after the first inning but promptly knotted the score in the second. Down 2-1 in the fifth, PC tied the game but Atlantis scored what turned out to be the game-winning run in the bottom of the fifth.
For the game, Fernandez and Lemos each had two hits. Beato, Lemos and
Kris Williams had doubles. Fernandez and Williams each had one RBI while Beato and Lemos both crossed home plate.
Christian Tibabijo threw a complete game. He had one strikeout and gave up just one earned run on three hits.
The Lions return to action tomorrow for the final game of the series starting at 12 p.m.
