ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The Paine College baseball team lost a hard-fought 12-6 game at Claflin Wednesday evening.

The Lions are now 10-10 on the season.

Denny Daza and Jhoel Melone led the way for PC as each tallied a pair of hits. Melone drove in a pair of runs while Alejandro Fernandez crossed home twice.

Joshua Cruz, Fernandez, Dominique Page, Jeury Beato, Kris Williams and Rayvion Alexander all accounted for base hits in the game. Fernandez and Page each drove in one while Daza, Cruz, Page and Lemos also crossed home plate.

The Lions took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first when Raul Guerrero reached on an error, allowing Daza and Fernandez to come around and score.

Trailing 3-2 in the second, PC knotted the score when Fernandez ripped a single to center field, plating Lemos. 

The home team plated eight runs in the bottom of the second but the Lions cut the deficit to 11-6 with a three-run fourth inning.

Page singled home Cruz while pushing Fernandez to third. Melone belted a double to left field, driving in Fernandez and Page.

PC gave up a run in the fifth for the final 12-6 score.

Emmanuel Martinez took the loss. He had one strikeout. Fabio Warff tossed 4.2 innings of work and notched four strikeouts while Hunter Justice had three strikeouts in two innings of work. Christian Tibabijo also saw time on the mound.

The Lions return to action Saturday for a doubleheader at Morris starting at 12 p.m.
