WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Paine College baseball team lost a pair of games at Carolina University Tuesday afternoon by scores of 11-5 and 13-2.
The Lions are now 14-13 on the season.
Paine struck first with a run in its first at bat but the Bruins plated four runs in the bottom of the frame. Leading 6-1, CU scored a run in the fourth and two in the fifth to break open the game. The teams traded runs in the sixth and PC tacked on a run in the seventh but it was not enough in the loss.
Joshua Cruz led the way with three hits and three runs scored.
Alejandro Fernandez and
Dominique Page tacked on two hits apiece. Page drove in two while both crossed home once.
Raul Guerrero had a hit and one RBI while
Kris Williams also tallied a hit.
Hunter Justice took the loss. He struck out four while
Christian Tibabijo had one strikeout.
The Lions plated nine runs over the first five innings before PC broke through on the scoreboard. The Lions had two runs in the sixth but the Bruins scored four in the bottom of the inning to secure the run-rule victory.
Alejandro Fernandez tallied a pair of hits while Guerrero drove in two runs with the round-tripper.
Fabio Warff took the loss and he struck out one.
The Lions return to action Friday when they host a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. against Bob Jones.
