Paine Sweeps Wesleyan

MACON, Ga. – The Paine College volleyball team posted a 3-0 win at Wesleyan Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Lions are now 9-10 on the season.

Head coach Kisha Lucette's team hit .133 for the match compared to just .009 for the home team. PC held Wesleyan to a negative hitting percentage in each of the first two frames in the 25-18, 25-18, 25-21 win.

For the match, the Lady Lions rattled off 28 kills. The squad posted 10 aces and seven blocks. Defensively, the team accounted for 58 digs.

The total-team effort was paced by Akirah McCrae's nine-kill performance. She hit .467 on 15 attempts. Jamay Allen and Najla Betts pounded home six kills apiece while Kennedy Williams and Kelsey Williams chipped in five and two kills, respectively.

Kelsey Williams notched a double-double with 12 assists and 12 digs. Chelsea Brooks was close to a double-double, totaling nine assists and eight digs.

At the service line, Brooks led the offense with three aces. Demi Mckeever and Makayla Evans had two aces each while Kayla Montoya, Kennedy Williams and Kelsey Williams had an ace apiece.

At the net, Kennedy Williams accounted for two solo blocks and a block assist. McCrae, Betts and Jamia Seals all had solo blocks. 

Evans led the defense with 13 digs while Montoya tallied 10.

In the first set, PC led 18-17 before rattling off five consecutive points en route to a 7-1 spurt to close the frame. Betts started it with a block.

The third stanza saw PC trail 19-16 before a 6-0 run gave the visitors the lead. During the spurt, Brooks had two aces and McCrae notched a kill. Up 23-21, Kennedy Williams finished the match with back-to-back kills. 

The Lady Lions return to action Wednesday when they take on Benedict at 6 p.m.
